Hi, it's me! This section of the website is for my own personal commentary on the Eventing season.
Feel free to read my ramblings below to gain an insight on what it's like to ride professionally.
Browse my diary below or use the menu on the right. You can even post comments, so let's hear what you have to say!
When we arrived in Thirlestane on the Friday evening, you could have been forgiven for believing that Summer was here! A light, bright evening and the going near perfect. But as with many events this year, the change by Sunday couldn?t have been more dramatic, with conditions very wet and difficult for organisers and riders.
My decision to drop Dick (Megastar) down to the Intermediate (HC) from Advanced, which allowed me to complete on Saturday, was vindicated as the rain continued all through Sunday night. I was very pleased with his double clear as he had not run since Osberton, and it was the right decision for him. Our second new Australian, Henry (Bournston Highland Charm) also experienced deep going for the first time, and he also came through well in an Intermediate section. The Novice course asked many technical questions ? probably more than the Advanced ? and in retrospect was probably too much for my two Novice rides.
Ash (Acheron) produced a good dressage and had just one pole down in the heavy going Showjumping ring and then retired on the Cross Country course. QT (Quick To Move)completed but found the Cross Country tough going.
Thirlestane is a great place with great people and it was such a shame that the rain just kept on coming!
